The Cost of Aged Care

Shalom Village, a ministry of Queensland Baptist Care, has been operating for 17 years. To date, 31 Independent Living Units are situated in a pleasant environment with ready access to all community services.

An extension of this ministry has been the development of Shalom Care Services – a Residential Aged Care facility offering sixty individual ensuited rooms to Low Care residents. Construction commenced in May 2002. Twelve of these rooms are designated specifically for residents suffering from dementia and will be staffed according to the assess care needs.

All prospective residents will be required to provide a current Low Care Age Assessment Team (ACAT) approval.

An application package is available to persons wishing to apply for accommodation at the service.

The application package contains the following documents:

* Common application form including financial details.
* Medical application form.
* Privacy brochure and consent form.

Each resident accepted at the service will be accommodated in their own, fully furnished room. Linen will be provided and laundry will be done on-site.

Meals will be provided from a modern on-site kitchen and intimate dining rooms are situated in each cluster of twelve rooms. Special diets will be catered for and a comprehensive menu available.

Resident sitting rooms are situated in each cluster with facilities for quiet conversations and areas to entertain family and friends.

Medical: Care will be provided by the medical practitioner of the resident’s choice

Social: Maintenance of social contacts is encouraged and community involvement positively nurtured to enable residents to maintain a quality lifestyle.

Spiritual: Local clergy will be welcome to visit the facility and minister to the residents

Residents and their families are welcome to contribute to the day to day running of the service. This occurs through forums, meetings, suggestions and face to face interviews with management.

Feedback will be regularly sought for ways to improve the services which we are delivering to the residents in our care.

Care will be delivered by nursing, personal care, administrative, catering, diversional therapy and grounds staff, as well as volunteer visitors.

Recruitment will be from the local community. Personnel with appropriate skills will be identified and employed for a variety of roles as listed above.

Education and Training for staff will be coordinated by the organisations’ education facilitator.

A comprehensive education programme is in place in all Queensland Baptist Care Aged Care facilities and similar programmes will be initiated at Shalom Care Services.
